As a Dutchie I love me some bread! Vegan bread can still be hard to find in Japan, but now Tokyo residents and visitors can enjoy a wide variety of heavenly breads at Universal Bakes and Cafe in Setagaya City.
Only a 10-minute walk from Shimo-kitazawa station, you can visit Universal for a lunch inside or on the terras, or a good old take-out! The lovely staff will be able to tell you what is on offer and when the freshest bakes will be out of the oven. Call ahead if you are looking for something in particular!
Universal also does special events, which they will anounce on social media. During these often multi-days events, they will offer special bakes related to the theme, such as "Christmas" or "Spanish". If you're lucky they will also offer homemade soup or French toast with icecream.
I have visited Universal right after their opening, as well as later down the line, and every single thing I have tasted there has been amazing!
They will offer some specials, like their special Christmas stollen, in their online shop here.
